Making Videos
  • How do I make a video?
To make a video you need a digital camcorder, digital camera with video capability or a webcam. Once you have recorded a video you can upload in onto the computer.
  • How do I transfer a video from my camera to my computer?
Instructions on how to upload should come with your recording device. Videos can be uploaded using a Firewire cord, USB cord (connects the device to the computer), or straight from a DVD. The video itself needs to be saved onto your computer in a place where you can easily find it.
  • Okay, my video is ready to upload. What next?
Log into Yideoz, click on the upload tab, and follow the steps on the Web page.
  • Can I upload videos from my cell phone? Not yet, but we're working on it
  • What video file formats can I upload? .WMV, .AVI, .ASF, .MOV (QuickTime), and .MPG. However, there are many different ways to prepare these files. Please follow the instructions in your video creation software to create standard, 320x240 videos. Please don't use the most cutting edge technology available, as we might not be ready for it yet.
  • How long will my video take to upload? That depends on a) the file size of your video; and b) the upstream connection speed of your Internet connection.
    If Your Video is: 500kb 1MB 2MB 4MB 10MB
    96kbps upload 50 seconds 2.1 minutes 4.2 minutes 8.6 minutes 21.6 minutes*
    128kbps upload 40 seconds 1.6 minutes 3.2 minutes 6.6 minutes 16.6 minutes*
    256kbps upload 20 seconds 50 seconds 1.6 minutes 3.3 minutes 8.3 minutes
    1.5mbit upload 5 seconds 15 seconds 20 seconds 50 seconds 1.4 minutes
    * May exceed browser timeout.
For information purposes only. All times are estimated. Please check with your ISP for your upload speed.

  • Do I have to sign up to upload videos?
Yes. Only a user with an account and a verified email address can upload. You do not need an account just to browse and watch videos.
  • Is there a limit to how many videos I can upload?
No – in fact we encourage you to upload and share as many videos as you like!
  • How long/large can my video be?
The file size limit is 100MB per video. Many times people will divide longer videos into segements and upload them separately.
I'm Having Trouble with my Upload
  • It seems like I've been waiting forever for my video to upload, what should I do?
After 6 hours, if your video hasn't completed uploading, we recommend to cancel and try it again.
  • I uploaded my video to Yideoz... where is it?
Once you have completed the process of uploading a video, you may view your video right away on your playlist page (Your Playlist shows you all of the videos you have watched).
  • Why isn't my video on the home page?
All videos that are uploaded onto Yideoz need to be moderated before they can appear on the home page. This is part of our efforts to maintain a high standard of quality, kosher content on our site.
  • Can I download videos to watch later?
Sorry. Videos are not able to be downloaded. But by clicking on "add to favorites" any video can be kept in your favorites and therefore easily accessible at all times.
  • Why does the video keep stopping and starting while I'm watching it?
Instead of waiting for the whole video to download, a segment of it is sent to your computer to start playing, and as you're watching more of the video is downloading in the background. If the video stops, it means that you ran out of video to watch before more of it has been downloaded to your computer. It usually takes only a few seconds for more of the video to be downloaded. If you want to watch the whole video uninterrupted, pause the video until it is completely downloaded.
